Te Puna x Tika Gala
A ten-day creative residency
— portraits, voices, exhibition and engagement — beginning the journey to NZICC, 29 April 2027.
Chris Cuffaro
Internationally recognised music photographer Chris Cuffaro spends ten days at Te Puna Creative Hub, building the photographic and documentary archive that becomes The TIKA Gala's Arrival experience.
Chris Cuffaro is an American photographer. Primarily known for his portraits of musicians, Cuffaro has photographed Michael Hutchence, Henry Rollins, George Michael, George Harrison and Jane's Addiction, among others…
Te puna creative hub
Located at the heart of Te Kōpua Henderson, Te Puna Creative Hub offers adaptable spaces with state-of-the-art tools and technologies to bring our creative vision to life.
Te Puna Creative Hub is delivered by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the region’s economic and cultural agency – on behalf of Auckland Council – in partnership with Te Kawerau ā Maki, the mana whenua authority for west Auckland.

40–60 completed portraits across music, arts, sport & leadership
25–40 filmed voices for the April broadcast
A working prototype of the Living Portrait, tested before NZICC scale
Portraits. Voices. Exhibition. Engagement.
One Studio.
A Cross-Section of Aotearoa.
Across ten days the studio hosts a deliberately broad sitting list — not celebrity for celebrity's sake, but a shared portrait of who is showing up for change.
Musicians & recording artists
Actors, filmmakers & broadcasters
Athletes & sporting figures
Dignitaries & civic leaders
Local & community figures
TIKA executive & staff
The residency opens with TIKA's founders. Their portraits and filmed conversations set the frame every later sitting works within — why TIKA exists, what the Gala funds, and what success looks like beyond one evening.
FOUNDATIONAL NARRATIVE
Alison Mau & Zoë Lawton
Video & Podcast for TIKA Live
The Gala broadcast does not start on 29 April — it starts in December.
Each sitting moves through a simple path:
PORTRAIT → FILMED VOICE → CONVERSATION
The result is an editorial library the broadcast team draws from for four months, so April opens with an archive already built — not an empty timeline.
Emerging Stars. Established Voices.
Chris's international archive sits alongside the new Aotearoa portraits at architectural scale — projection, print and moving image, evolving daily as new sittings are added.
Performances from Tiki Taane & Theia
Emerging musicians and creative voices (Day 4)
